“Darya” (دریا) means sea. In this piece, “Darya-b” (دریاب) carries the meaning take care of me, understand me. It is a plea from a grieving mother to the sea: “O Sea, take care of my young son who has drowned within you.” Each day she returns to the shore, speaking to the waves as if the sea itself could cradle her child, keep him warm, and protect him in her absence.
